William Hallidy - President Mission: Literacy Volunteers of America-Cayuga County, Inc. is an organization of volunteers, which provides a variety of services to enable people to achieve personal goals through literacy. We provide free tutoring and other educational services directly to people desiring increased literacy skills, including English as a second language. We also work to encourage and assist other organizations and individuals that are committed to a literate society. By providing effective training and support to volunteers we build skills and abilities that enable them to help students acquire basic literacy skills and enhance their personal growth. Services: Basic Literacy : One-to-one tutoring is available to individuals who perform below the 8th grade level (reading/math). Trained tutors will assist adult learners to reach their personal educational goals. Goals can be related to family reading, employment or job skills, etc. This service is free and confidential. English As A Second Language : Trained tutors are available to assist non-native speakers of English in our community to improve and learn English language skills. Individuals desiring improved English skills can have one-to-one tutoring that is a free and confidential service. Hours: Mon.- Fri. 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Tutoring sessions arranged by tutor and student.) Referral: Call the office at 253-5241.
