Mission: The agency is a source of literature and audiovisual information on chemical abuse and dependency. This information is available for the general education of the public. Presentations to community and school groups are available upon request. We provide referral process for those seeking crisis centers, detoxification and inpatient treatment. The agency provides assessments/evaluations, outpatient counseling.
Services:
Edu-Therapy Program - This service is intended to treat those who have experienced one problem in their life as a direct result of their alcohol/substance abuse. This is a minimum of 12-weeks in duration. The goal is to increase awareness of the harmful effect of substance abuse, increased understanding of the disease of chemical dependency/alcoholism, provide less intensive treatment and an introduction to self-help groups (AA/NA). Each client is provided the opportunity to examine their own use of alcohol and/or other substances as it relates to abuse and/or dependency.
Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) - This program is designed for people who need treatment for the disease of chemical dependency/alcoholism and do not require the structure or medical care of an inpatient treatment setting. This program is appropriate for those completing an inpatient program with an aftercare referral for intensive outpatient treatment. The intent of this service is to keep people at home if it is supportive and maintain their employment while receiving outpatient treatment that is intensive. It also allows those in treatment to set up a support system in Alcoholics (AA) and/or Narcotics Anonymous (NA). The program has evening and daytime groups - Gender specific groups are also available.
Adolescent Program - These services are designed to meet the emerging treatment needs of adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18 who have been diagnosed as substance abusers or dependent. The services are driven by the scope of the problem that could include a once per week Education Group. The Education Group assists teens in understanding the nature of alcohol and substance abuse/dependency via education and discussion. The goal is to help teens understand the effects that alcohol and/or substance abuse on their lives. The approximate length is a minimum of 12-weeks. All teens are assigned a primary counselor with whom they receive individual counseling and develop appropriate treatment plans. Parents are also asked to be involved through family sessions. Teens who cannot maintain abstinence after a reasonable time in this program are generally referred to a higher level of care.
Children’s Program - Intended for children whose ages are 5 to 12 who have been affected by a family member’s alcoholism or substance abuse. The goal is to educate by teaching the children how to identify and communicate feelings; coping skills for living; signs and symptoms of chemical dependency/alcoholism; the roles those family members take on; and how abuse/dependency affects the whole family.
Dual Program - This service is designed to meet the needs of individuals with co-existing mental health/substance abuse disorders. The program provides assessment and referral; group and/or individual counseling and continuing care. The psychiatric assessment will be done by the agency's psychiatrist and he will also medically manage any prescribed medications.
Family Education/Support Program - Designed for people who are seeking more information about chemical dependency/alcoholism or who are affected and concerned about someone’s drinking or substance use. The goal of this program is to help individuals gain an increased understanding of the disease of chemical dependency/alcoholism and how it affects family/friends. Participants will become more aware of personal feelings and behavior resulting from the living with someone who has the problem along with the roles that develop. Participants will become more aware of the choices now available to them. An introduction to Al-Anon as a support group is included. This program is once a week. Individual sessions are offered as needed.
Family Interventions - Help is available for families with members in need of help with addictions that are not able to see that need. Counselors will assist family members in confronting the addicted person and making an appropriate referral.
Women’s Program - Designed to address the specific needs of chemically dependent women in the group setting. The topic areas will focus on the issues associated with women in recovery within an all-female group. The group also allows for those involved to bring their individual needs to the group on an ongoing basis. This group is available to all women in treatment at the agency and for those who seek out such services from the community.
Men’s Program - Intended to provide a group designed specifically to address the needs of men in recovery. This is an all-male group, which also allows them to bring their issues to group on an ongoing basis.
Cayuga County Jail Program - The services are basic assessments, screenings for those seeking a referral to some level of alcohol/drug treatment. Local judges, attorneys, and family members utilize this program.
School Based Prevention Program - The DART program is primarily prevention program designed to meet the needs of school aged youth in grades K-7. The service is designed to match the developmental needs and learning styles of all the children. It focuses on substance use and abuse as a health issue. The service is provided in the classroom setting in all elementary schools in the county.
Intervention Program - Intended to provide assessment and individual counseling to at risk youth is selected Cayuga County middle and high schools. The services are provided on site and are short term. The service will also provide crises and referral services on a limited basis.
Hours: Mon. - Fri. 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (evenings 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.)
