Mission: Aurora's professional staff strives to insure that people of all ages with sensory impairments are able to live independently, to cope with sensory loss, and to have full access to the communities in which they live. Aurora is a private, not-for-profit agency which provides rehabilitation services to people who are blind, visually impaired, Deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened or Deaf/blind in a five county area including Cayuga.

Services: Rehabilitation services include social work, adaptive daily living skills instruction, orientation & mobility instruction, low vision services, adaptive technology evaluation and training, early intervention services, Veteran's Affairs telephone switchboard service staffed by individuals with visual impairments, vocational & employment services, literacy training for Deal individuals, NYS certified summer education program for Deaf/hard of hearing children, sign language instruction and sign language interpreting service.

Referral: Aurora will accept referrals of any person, adult or child, who has a visual or hearing impairment severe enough to affect the individual's ability to function safely and independently. Most services are available to residents of Cayuga County.

Support: United Way of CNY, Cayuga and Oswego Counties; authorized agency of Onondaga County; Onondaga County Department of Youth and Aging; fees for service; contributions; memberships; legacies; income from capital; proceeds from the fund raising events and contracts and fees for service with NYS Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped and VESID.
